Yay or Nay?

Our BIG ultra-sound is in one week. You know, the one where they look at everything and make sure the baby has a spinal cord, the proper sized cranium, the right amount of fingers and toes, the gender...

People keep asking the normal, "So, are you gonna find out what you're having?"

The answer: I DON'T KNOW.

We found out with both Charlie and Jane, but this one...we just can't decide. Inevitably we'll decide NOT to find out, and then Bart will get there and 1) suddenly tell the tech to tell us the gender, or 2) he'll be able to SEE for himself (Docs are known for doing that) and he'll just tell me later anyway. And there is something comforting in knowing this-is-what-to-expect-so-get-all-those-clothes/name/nursery-ready!

HOWEVER,

We already have a boy and a girl, so we're pretty much set clothes/nursery-wise, and we're going to need to come up with a name either way.

PLUS,

Doesn't it seem fun to have to wait like the pioneers did (or, for those of us over 25, OUR MOTHERS) for the doctor to say,

"IT'S A BOY/GIRL!"???

The anticipation is like Christmas, except you don't get that let-down feeling of, "Oh. That's it?" once all the presents are opened.

(sigh)

So the question is,
WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

I have to know. To me it is funner to know. that way you can be excited about the idea for 5 months. Gives me something to think about instead of the misery of being pregnant. But totally up to you. Just find out, because I can't wait that long to find out what you are having!

This is a furry topic!!! We waited with all 3 and I love it!!! It makes going into labor exciting and fun instead of dreadful and painful. And that moment, that exact moment when the baby is finally out and you look at the love if your life and he says, "it's a....!!!!" is priceless. I bawl everytime. I wouldn't do it different. However, be prepared for a ton of negative comments when people find out you're waiting. It gets very annoying, so you have to have thick skin and nit be bothered by it. Especially grandmas. Drives them bonkers. Although, we kind of enjoyed doing that to them. Anyway, my vote is wait, but I promise to be happy with whatever choice you make cause it's not for everyone. A little tip, at the ultrasound, ask them to tell you to look away when they look down in the plumbing area so Pappa doesn't see.

Not furry topic, firey. If that's a word. My iPod changed it for me. :)

finding out was like christmas for me. (i'm noticing i'm not the first with a christmas allusion). i didn't even think to wait. BUT ... i've had a couple friends do it recently, and i think its so cool. they are tough cookies; 1- for being patient and 2- for putting up with the negative comments. i think its awesome. i think you could be awesome too. :) well, you are ... but MORE awesome. i think it would be a fun thing to do, but i can understand wanting to find out ASAP (i did). good luck!

Wellll, since you asked.

If I were to have a 3rd, I'd wait to find out (even if that meant someone who might spoil it had to miss the ultrasound... that's how serious I am).

PS: Since so far no good on my own opportunity to 'wait and find out,' I am living vicariously through you. Just so ya know... No pressure :)

I would wait too even though it would be hard but it will be so much more exciting I think! We want to wait on the next one so maybe your will-power will keep me inspired. Haha. Either way is great.

The only two I had ultrasounds on I found out. With the first ultrasound--My second son--it was so obvious even all of us who had never seen an ultrasound could tell he was a boy. The second was when I came home and warned you so we could get the mourning out of the way and you could enjoy the baby when he came home.

I enjoyed the moment of delivery with the "it's a ___" but either way you get surprised at some point and the comments are right, there are a lot of people who think it is their job or right or something to tell you how stupid, awful, unenlightened you are. It is kind of fun to let them eat it and stew!

Another alternative is to find out and then not tell anyone else. THAT would be funny and serve those noisy newsers right.

Love ya,

I NEVER thought I could have a baby without finding out the gender, but we didn't find out with Kambell, and it was so fun. It drove my mom CRAZY, but it was easier than I thought it would be. I high-risk pregnancies with the girls, so I have had A LOT of ultrasounds. So I am all too familiar with what a "girl" looks like on ultrasound. So, my doctor just told me when to look away when she got close to the area. I am a planner, so we had to find a way around that as well. It was worth the wait...but I do think it is fun to find out and plan the nursery and all that jazz. So in other words...I am zero help. Good luck deciding!

Yet one of the many reasons that I am glad God saved me for this particular dispensation. I don't want to wait nine months to find out what the baby's sex is (I think knowing the baby is healthy or knowing there are slight problems is also a plus). I also get to take ward showers, and drive in a car, and not home school my kids. Seriously. Knowledge is power sister!

YIKES WARM SHOWERS! Not WaRd showers. That would be a whole different situation!

Since there aren't any particularly pressing reasons why you should find out, and you do have a desire to have that once-in-a-lifetime surprise, I say you should try to wait. I myself was looking forward to knowing soon, but I can make the sacrifice :)
