I don't know about anyone else, but we drink a lot of MILK:
I'm talking a Gallon a day.
As I was growing up, I'd go to the store with my mom. People would look at her cart full of 6 gallons of milk in disbelief. The inevitable, "WOW! That's a lot of milk!" would follow. Mom would always smile her little smile, and as the exclaimer walked down the aisle and out of earshot she'd turn to me and say, "Let's not tell them that we do this twice a week, ok?"
I have four brothers and a sister--all of us milk drinkers, even if my mom had to cajole Brothers 1 & 3 to drink it with chocolate powder. That's a lot of people drinking milk in one house. I thought everyone was that way. Give or take a few gallons.
Fast Forward to NOW. I still drink milk. I married a milk drinker. Our children are milk drinkers. (No comments on the baby, please.) =)
Last night we were on our last 1/2 Gallon. I went to the store and put our usual 5 Gallons in my cart and wheeled it through check out. As I was exiting the store a lady stopped me and said,
"Do you freeze your milk?"
*smiling* "No. We just drink this much milk."
"Really? How long does it take you to go through that?"
"We usually drink a Gallon a day."
"WOW! That's a lot of milk! I've been trying to decide if I need to cut back from 1/2 Gallon to a Quart."
*smile. Exit*
Really?
It never ceases to amaze me how many people do NOT drink milk. Ever. I understand those who are intolerant of it or those who genuinely dislike it. And it's not like our family never drinks anything else. Granted, we don't drink Coffee or Tea, and we only have juice and pop as a treat once in a while. But what about the rest of people?
Don't they ever have cereal?
Cookies?
Chocolate Cake?
PB&Js?
Isn't it just about the most refreshing thing in the world to wash down your dinner with a nice, deep swig of delicious MILK?
Why don't People drink milk?
WHY?!

Mmmmm...
Milk!
We also go through a gallon a day. I'm pretty sure the baby does, too! Thank goodness his milk is free! ;)
Sorry, I'm a milk hater. I don't even eat cereal anymore, so I never buy it. I could, however, write this exact same post, just substituting "diet coke" for "milk."
WHY? BECAUSE MILKE TASTES LIKE THE INSIDE OF A DAIRY SMELLS!! That's why. And now you know. ;)
I love milk! I am an avid cereal eater, love cookies...etc.
Kate won't share milk or any dairy. I used to think that was weird but now I am the same way. You get a glass of milk and it's yours not anyone else's. We go through a lot of milk too but not a gallon a day. Maybe a half-gallon a day.
Milk is the beverage of choice for:
a) cereal, of course - which I have every morning for breakfast;
b) spaghetti;
c) pancakes
As far as just chug-a-lugging a glass of milk - it would have to be buttermilk. Yumm.
We have been milk drinkers too... not to such a great extent, I'd say a gallon a week. But (and you're not going to like this at all) we're about to cut back entirely on our dairy...milk, yogurt, ice cream. It's all going to go. Not because we don't enjoy it, in fact I think it may be a hard transition, but purely for health reasons. Big slash on the meat too.
Alan is a milk drinker, I am not. I drink over a gallon of water each day, just me. This is a true story, my husband thinks I am nuts, but when he tries to push milk on me I tell him I have no room for any more liquid.
Just to remind you: We actually went through about 14 gallons a week, unless someone was gone. People would also say "you should have a cow." I would smile serenely and say, "been there, done that. That's why I do it this way." Now we drink about 4 gallons a week unless we have company, i.e. Mary Kay, Aaron, Sam, or rarely, The Thayn's.
I'm with Leslee on this one. Though I grew up in a huge milk drinking household, we have completely cut out dairy for health purposes. That is a long post in and of its self.
Nothing but Almond milk for the Gunther's. Yet back at my parents they are still going through a 1/2 gallon a day. :)
HOLY COW! A gallon a day!?? Wow, we would go through a gallon every 2-2 1/2 weeks, the milk would often go sour before we could finish it. There were times where we would go through a gallon in a month is all. (Now that i am pregnant we go through a gallon once a week.) And it has to be skim (fat free)is all I can handle, when it is thicker then 1% I gag on it. And the milk is only used for cooking and cereal. Water, is our main fluid intake. Oh and water is kind of free too!
